Record Collector: Jeff Smith, aka lordxhumungus

If you're into hardcore and love torturing yourself by looking at collectable vinyl, there's a good chance you're already following Jeff Smith. Under the handle lordxhumungus, Smith has amassed thousands of followers on the social media site through his posts sharing photos of his massive record collection. In this Record Collector installment, we get to know more about Smith and his love for wax.

How long have you been collecting hardcore vinyl?

For about 25 years now.

Where/how do you usually find your hardcore records?

Shows, direct from bands/labels via the Internet, eBay, Discogs, Instagram and, most importantly, from like-minded collector friends.

What is the most you paid for a hardcore record, where/how did you obtain it, and what was it?

$800. I bought it from a friendly gentleman selling his collection on Instagram. Two words: CHAIN X CREW.

What is your most prized hardcore record and why?

Definitely my Minor Threat's Filler 7". While it's only a 4th pressing and not the most valuable in dollar amount, it's my favorite record of all time.

Outside of the money you spend, what do you hate most about record collecting in the hardcore world?

Which record(s) are still on your want list that you've had a tough time tracking down through the years?

I try not to keep a physical wantlist but rather let opportunity and chance dictate my pickups. Luck and timing are important factors that I have no control over. I try not to get too hung up on completing collections, but instead I try to enjoy the opportunities that present themselves to me. For the sake of this conversation, though, I'll pick two that I just haven't had the good fortune of finding or the luck of having money whenever I could find one: Chain of Strength True Till Death 7" on clear (regular or silver sleeve) and Bold 7" on pink. I'd love to own those records but with each passing day their prices continue to rise so who knows if I'll ever land them.

Whacky mix em ups part 3. This is an interesting box for sure... #stillnotalphabetizing
