Clockface: Ripping Midwest Hardcore Is Alive & Well via New 7”

"It’s rad how things just fell into place for Clockface," says vocalist Dan Sluka. The band was last featured by No Echo in 2024, when they emerged into the Midwest hardcore scene, a scene Dan described as "prolific" two years ago. "At first, it was just Andy [Nelson] and me sending recordings back and forth. We wrote, recorded, and self-released two demos for fun.

Once the demos dropped, the response was great. Our friends Tyler and Matt reached out to ask if we needed any players, since they were into the songs. The final piece was getting Justin to accept our invitation to play drums. Before we played our first show, our good friend Jimmy even offered to release a physical copy of the demos on his label Top Floor Tapes."

Nelson, of Weekend Nachos fame, is the recording engineer at Bricktop studios in Chicago, a Midwest recording haven. "We heard him say the name Ringworm a few times," says Dan, with regard to the band's sound. Once Clockface's lineup was solidified. The band noticed they enjoyed playing their heavier songs live, which had an impact on their latest release, the Clockface 7". "I’d sum our sound up as fast hardcore with crunch." They cite the riffs and tempos on the record as akin to those of '90s bands like Strife, Trial, and Integrity.

The band has solidified a vinyl deal with Eric Scobie from Dropping Bombs and is already demoing their next record. Dan had this to say about their partnership with Scobie, "Dropping Bombs has released a bunch of great records, and is genuinely one of the friendliest dudes, so we naturally wanted to work with him." They shared the recording with him right after returning home from the studio, a feat only modern technology can produce.

Clockface will continue to play local shows in Detroit and Chicago and throughout the Midwest in 2026. The full record will be able to stream on March 6th.
