Their formation story:
(Myrtle, vocals): "I used to play in a couple of hardcore and emo bands from the Sydney scene, including Trenchknife, Moving Violation, and Greenwood, and wanted to start something fresh and a little different from what my previous bands were doing. Dean (guitar) and I used to play in Moving Violation together, and we both agreed we wanted to start something that felt a bit different, so we began writing and workshopping demos here and there.
We later linked up with Daniel, who had already been close friends with Dean for a long time, and they had previously talked about starting bands together. Then our homie Jakson (Dance, xStarscreamx, Wildcard Shows) introduced us to Theo after learning we needed a drummer and that Theo was keen to join a new band.
"So now the lineup is solidified as: Myrtle — vocals, Dean — guitar, Daniel — bass, and Theo — drums."
Their sound in their own words:
"I would describe our sound as everything in hardcore that I personally enjoy and resonate with: two-step parts, Floorpunch-style energy, fast pick-up changes, and some mosh parts. Basically, what I think a hardcore band should sound like.
"We draw a lot of influence from Youth Crew bands and pretty much anything connected to the Lockin’ Out and Bridge Nine rosters from the early 2000s.
"FFO: Mental, Righteous Jams, No Warning, Floorpunch, The Wrong Side, Ceremony, and The Rival Mob."
Latest release info:
"We released DEMO 26’ back in January through Wildcard. We recorded it with our good friend Laythen Carlisle (The Real Deal, Constrictor), who has played and recorded with several hectic Sydney bands that we all love.
"We went fully DIY and recorded everything in our local rehearsal space—shout out Adversary Studios in Marrickville—using all of Laythen’s gear that he had to lug around himself, along with whatever cabs and drums were available.
"The demo encapsulates everything in hardcore that I personally resonate with: calling people out on their bullshit while uplifting yourself and your friends at the same time."
Future plans:
"We’ve got a couple of shows lined up: June 13 in Sydney with Huntsman, Reign of Power, and Served, and July 3 on the Central Coast with Solum, L.O.W, Fatal Excuse, Desperate Cry, Jan, and Slacker.
"We’re currently in the process of writing new music, but otherwise nothing too concrete just yet. Right now, we’re mostly looking to ride the wave, continue having fun, and navigate life while keeping the band moving forward."
