Band: Odd Limbs
From: Los Angeles, California
Their formation story:
(Spencer Gilmore, guitar)"It started off as a side project in 2022 for our singer, Melody Corza, and me. We were in a power violence band called Gutter//Hype, which has since disbanded. In that band, I played guitar, and she played bass. However, now with this band, she wanted to take the reins as a frontwoman.
"The band's name comes from a quote that I read in The Watchmen comics that reads, 'I set about burying the sodden carcasses, matching odd limbs as best I could with them, I buried all hope for my family’s survival.”
"I never finished the comic, but I thought the name was cool [laughs]. The band wasn’t officially formed for a while. After Gutter//Hype broke up, we took a hiatus from music. But during the summer of 2022, I met a drummer named Isaac Shapiro on Vampr. From the first practice together, we hit it off. We began jamming and writing music at his home studio in Long Beach. Some time passed, and we took another hiatus. I then formed a band with Isaac and Roger Iglesias, a guy I met at a Runts show at Footsies in Lincoln Heights called 'Sprey. We jammed together for about 6 months until we disbanded after our first show.
"A couple of months passed, and I reached out to Melody to reform 'Odd Limbs. ' I told her I know two perfect guys. Isaac (drummer), Roger (bassist). We then started to jam again at Isaac’s house. There, we wrote a majority of the songs we play today. Over months of playing together, Isaac then reached out, saying he couldn’t be in the band anymore and that he and his wife were moving to Oregon. Truly a bummer because he’s such a great friend and a fantastic drummer. However, I knew of another drummer, Livan Gomez. He was the current drummer for Big Tech at the time. I hit him up for an audition, and we’ve been in a separate band ever since."
Their sound in their own words:
"Coming from a power violence band, our riffs tend to come from that. Fast blast beats, stop and go starts, but also integrating Hardcore breakdowns and two-steppy parts. Our lyrics are a combination of self-expression, politics, and social observations. As far as influences, I would say Gulch, Nails, Capitalist Casualties, Cave State, and Mind Eraser."
Latest release info:
"Recording of our demo, Demonstrating Violence, was painstakingly long and kinda devolved into an inside joke amongst friends and coworkers. It became 'Where the fuck is your demo?' “Why is it taking so long?” 'Just release it.'
We started recording in late 2024. We recorded with Manny Mancilla. We got through the recordings over a night. But for whatever reason, we decided not to release it. Fast forward a couple of months, our drummer Livan suggested he re-record us in his lockout at Downtown Rehearsal. It all sounded great, but for whatever reason, we weren’t satisfied.
"Fast forward, we kept playing more shows, and we moved lockouts to Fernando Studios. We hunkered down and finished it. I joked that this demo was cursed and that as soon as we release it, we can just break up [laughs]. But it’s 2026, and we prevail, and we’re very excited it is finally out, and we are now currently playing shows and selling CDs."
Future plans:
"In the upcoming months, we plan to just play more, maybe a mini West Coast tour, start writing new material, and maybe work on a full-length EP."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
Check out Gylt, they’re a must. Curbed, Consequence, and Hot Load.
