New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Green Tip

Band: Green Tip
From: Nashville, Tennessee

Their formation story:
(Cal Tung, drums): "I moved to Nashville over half a decade ago, and though the city has an abundance of talented and respected punk/hardcore bands, there weren't any making the style of hardcore I was really hungry for.

"I approached Noel Richards (guitar) about writing a demo of songs that I really wanted to be hard, not necessarily heavy, with no frills. Noel works construction with Ryan Davidson (vocals) and apparently the guy had some things he wanted to get off his chest, which is pretty evident in the lyrics..so that just made sense having him front the band. It also helps that he's big.

"Sean Flint (bass) is just a Nashville punk rock oldhead who loves hardcore and rips at bass. Any punk band would be lucky to have him on their team."

Their sound in their own words:
"I only want to write songs where every part of the song is mosh-able. No filler. Get in, make your point, and get out. Trim all the fat, no one wants to hear the throwaway riffs. I'd also always pick hard over heavy every day of the week. I've always loved bands that conveyed their attitude through music.

"We love Brotherhood, Think I Care, Killing Time, Warzone. We especially love the Boston bands from the 2010s. That was a golden era for hardcore: No Tolerance, Boston Strangler, Rival Mob, Mental, and the whole lot."

Latest release info:
"Tell us a bit about your newest release. It's a self-titled demo that we wrote in early spring and recorded collectively in a handful of hours with Shibby Poole who records a lot of bands out here. 7 songs in 10 minutes. Wham bam. Listen to it twice if you want."

Future plans:
"Noel only agreed to start the band with me if it were low stakes. He plays in another band that takes up most of his time and in addition, he constantly complains about work and planning his upcoming wedding. That being said, we hope to play a couple shows a year that really count. We had our first show back in April and people moshed so for us that was a major success."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Family Dog, Waxed, G.U.N., Chainshot."
