Band: Fractured
From: London, UK
Their formation story:
(Josie, bass): “The project just started off with me and Jess (vocals) just messing about writing some stuff on guitar, not really going anywhere. What we wrote was completely different to the sound we have now and not very good, it was more beatdown influenced and under the name Fractured Mind.
"A few months later our current guitarist Kiana and drummer Oscar joined the band around the same time. Things began moving in a more deathcore/metalcore direction, we changed the name to Fractured around that time as well.
"We wrote A Moment of Clarity Before Hitting the Ground within the first month or two of being a proper band. We played our first show in Kent shortly after.”
Their sound in their own words:
“We play early 2000s-style deathcore. We take a lot of inspiration from old core bands, mainly On Broken Wings, My Bitter End, Chelsea Grin, Pig Destroyer, and I Declare War.”
Latest release info:
“All the songs were written about a year ago now, in the span of a month or two, it just took us ages to actually get round to recording any of it. We had a bunch of setbacks, mainly most of our equipment breaking when it came time to record and a lot of our initial recordings being unusable.
"We recorded the entire EP ourselves, it was done on a bit of a budget and a bit unconventionally. We recorded the drums at a rehearsal studio, everything but the kick drum, which was later programmed in. We did this to get that clicky kick sound you hear on the EP, which is taken straight from 'Amidst the Bloodshed' by I Declare War.
"The guitars and bass were all DI. All the vocals were recorded in our vocalist’s shed, recording the gang vocals in reduced to filth was kinda difficult as there wasn’t much space in there. The whole thing was mixed by our guitarist Kiana, she also did all of the artwork for the EP.”
Future plans:
“Our biggest priorities at the moment are to get our new second guitarist Jawwad up to speed with our material, and writing/recording new songs as most of the music in our live set isn’t released yet.
"We’re writing for a 15-20 minute EP which features some of the best stuff we’ve ever written. We’re getting it mixed by the guy who did Rev3nant, Mauled, Amulet and a bunch of other sick deathcore bands from the States, so it’s gonna sound huge.
"We’re gonna release a few tracks on splits here and there as well. We’re doing one with allmylifeneededwasasenseofsomeplacetogo and Fourth Of July which we’re pretty excited for.”
What other bands from their region should we check out?
“Ghost of a Bullet, I’m Sorry Emil, So Far So Good, xapothecaryx, Closed Hands, Parathesia, Regress, and Bullet.
"They aren’t from London but Dear Diary, Warden and Arbiter are some other sick bands playing old-school deathcore that people should definitely keep an eye on.”
