New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Enemy of Man

Band: Enemy of Man
From: Des Moines, Iowa

Their formation story:
(Corey Patrick, vocals): "Matt (guitar) and I book shows in a collective together here in Des Moines. Somewhere around October 2024, we were at a show together, and he had a Blood for Blood shirt on. I said, 'Start a band with me that sounds like B4B,' and here we are. It took us quite a while to get started and all members firmly in place. Javi (drums) and Matt built our foundation, and Kyler (bass) and Brad (guitar) truly rounded us out. The goal with this band was to play a style of hardcore that we weren’t hearing anymore."

Their sound in their own words:
"This is an interesting question for us so far because those are the influences we came in with. Heavily influenced by the Northeast. Boston and Connecticut bands, but also Clevo style is very much worn on Matt’s sleeve as he is from there. Hard, more than heavy, was the intention. To be honest, I don’t know how much we sound like any of them. We write what we like more than anything else. And that I do think shines through."

Latest release info:
"From a lyrical standpoint, I’m writing about guilt and grief. And trying to feel alive while consumed by those things as you get older and they become more frequent. My wife has been in poor health for some time. One of my best friends passed away a few years back after we’d lost touch. My desire to inflict violence on those consistently inflicting it on our communities. My intent is for it not to feel hopeless, though."

Future plans:
"We have some shows in the next few months. We’re planning some more weekends and short runs throughout this year. We’re all grown men with many responsibilities. So it’s all about figuring out the timing for everybody. But we intend to play as much as possible."

What are some other bands from their region we should check out?
"Swing Youth, Tearaway, Losing Dice, Dose, Skinned Alive, Position of Power, Animals on LSD, Box Truck, Common Hollow, Big Bastard, Do You Bleed, Sin Miedo, Source of Fire, Setback, Sacred, Before I Depart, See No Evil, Another Enemy, Paralyzer, Ironbar, Champagne.

"As a parting note, I would like to specifically shout out the Twin Cities scene. Their state is under occupation. People are being stolen off the street. Shot in the head for just driving away. They are terrorizing families with live munitions and toxic gas for just being in their homes. Saying 'FUCK ICE' isn’t enough. This is a class war that’s never stopped escalating in my lifetime. It’s time the other side feels what that’s like.

"Death is less than what you deserve. May pain and suffering find you all. Fuck you, fuck the state and fuck everyone that you love. Solidarity to Minneapolis. To our friends and their families."
