New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Deep Cover

Band: Deep Cover
From: Fort Worth, Texas

Their formation story:
(Jordan, guitars): "The origin of Deep Cover was an unorganized, revolving door of people messing around and jamming with no defined intent initially. Just trying to find a shred of sanity during 2020 with a lack of shows or even an idea of what the future looked like. Ty and I were always part of that initial group. Ty was playing drums and I was playing guitar.

"When the two of us realized there was potentially something real there, we started building the idea and finding people we could both agree on to be involved. Ty stepped over to vocals as we brought Seth in to play drums. Trey expressed interest in being a part so as he was folded in, it was collectively decided that he would play drums and Seth would move to bass.

"Although he plays guitar in Creeping Death, if you asked Trey, he’d tell you drums are his primary and preferred instrument. The demo was recorded with the four of us. Seth eventually had to step away due to Skourge, Fugitive, and other responsibilities taking up so much time. Kyle was brought in to take over on bass and Juan joined on second guitar. This has since been the permanent lineup."

Their sound in their own words:
"At the beginning I’d say the aim was fairly straight forward. Cleveland hardcore: Integrity, In Cold Blood, Ringworm, etc. But as a lineup cemented, the style and sound developed beyond that. We’re just coming at it with the idea of fusing what we like about punk, hardcore, and metal into something new.

"Integrity, Cold as Life, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Discharge, Poison Idea, Obituary, and Breakdown. If you like any of those or anything in between then there’s a chance you may like Deep Cover."

Latest release info:
"We just dropped two songs as an early preview of an EP releasing later this year. The EP is six songs coming in at under 15 minutes. Three of the tracks are brand new and three are re-recorded versions of songs from the demo with a new approach. Of the two we just released, ‘Oubliette (One Way Out)’ is brand new and ‘Crashing Down’ is a re-recorded demo song."

Future plans:
"There is more music written beyond the new EP. I work on writing new songs in my own time and prepare them for when we’re all able to get together and hammer the final versions out. Creeping Death, Ozone, and Judiciary have all respectively kept Trey, Ty and Juan very busy, so we have to utilize the time in between.

"With that said, there are a few shows planned for the year so far. The EP is still planned to release this year once some things are confirmed. It should be sooner than later. In the meantime you can check out our 2 song promo and 2021 demo. The demo is available to purchase through Circle Twenty Three. Shout out to Victor for being a huge supporter and putting out the physical release of our demo."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Grimoire, Since My Beloved, Visions of Mortality, Barricade… Other projects featuring members of Deep Cover; Creeping Death, Mass Appeal, Judiciary, Ozone, Feral Cry."
