Song of the Day

Wolvesblood, “Marked for Death,” from Love Unholy (2018)

Metallic hardcore, when done well, is a filth divine. From the emptiest and blackest of hearts, Baltimore has spawned a monster.

The feral hardcore brood Wolvesblood recently unleashed their debut 3-song single, Love Unholy, and it feels like an unholy marriage. They easily rattle off crushing breakdowns delivered as both vicious beatings and as triple time, relentless thrash. Charm City's hardest sip from the same blackened well as Earth Crisis, All Out War, Morning Again, and countless other forebears.

The recording splits the difference between raw and crystalline, giving space to hear each punch as it lands. Perfectly timed gang vocals and just a pinch of Integrity-worthy squeal provide a fitting backbone to the hardcore skeleton. Yet, the most immediate and affecting part of the songs are the desperate, frenzied, and emotive vocals, which only elevate an already impressive debut.

Fresh off decimating their home city with Ecostrike and Magnitude, they'll soon share the stage with fellow heavyweights Bracewar, Queensway, World Demise, and Purgatory. Catch 'em before the Wolfpack comes for blood.
