Song of the Day

Bone Mask, “Naked and Howling,” from The Mill (2017)

Bone Mask are a relatively new band from Rochester NY, who’s sounds recall that of Generation of Vipers, Entombed, Crowbar, and the all mighty Neurosis. Their self-released debut EP, The Mill, came out late last summer, and each of the 5 songs are as crushing and as punishing as the last. The Mill would fit right in at home on Earache Records in the early '90s, as well as it would with any modern Earache contemporary.

Bone Mask's “Naked and Howling” is your dose of heavy for today.

From the moment the snare hit starts off the 3:28 track, you are clubbed and dragged out on a ride of anger and anguish, left questioning your existence on this cruel planet (or in their case, why it seems to snow unrelentingly for about 6 months out of the year in western NY.)

“Naked and Howling” is proof that Bone Mask are fearless of death and have riffs that would make even Kirk Windstein throw up his horns. The Mill is only a taste of what the band has coming down the pipeline. Bang your head and keep your eyes open for what this band has to offer in the near future.

The Mill is available digitally via the Bone Mask's Bandcamp, and on cassette via the Sore Ear Collective webstore.
