Adrenalin O.D. is one of those bands I seeked out after seeing musicians from other bands I admired wearing their T-shirt.
It was sometime around 1991 or so when I finally found a used copy of their 1986 album, Humungousfungusamongus.
Their weirdo take on hardcore punk took a minute to settle in for me, but once I got it, I was in.
Founded in the early '80s, the New Jersey outfit's oddball bent to their style helped set them apart from many of their peers.
Penned by the band's founding drummer, Dave Scott Schwartzman, If It's Tuesday This Must Be Walla Walla: The Wacky History of Adrenalin O.D. is a new 300-plus page history on the Bergen County crew.
Schwartzman’s prose captures the spirit of his group's biting sarcasm throughout, but the kind of "did that really happen?!" stories and trivia music geeks like me salivate over are all there.
In fact, the details laid out throughout the book are nerd-perfect. It's like sitting in a bar next to a great storyteller who can present their vivid recollections in a way that makes you feel like you were actually there with them when it happened.
If It's Tuesday This Must Be Walla Walla: The Wacky History of Adrenalin O.D. is also packed with photos, show flyers, and other hardcore-related ephemera. I especially appreciated the '80s live photos that appear in the book since I hadn't seen many from that era of the band before.
For those readers who haven't heard Adrenalin O.D. before, check this insanity out:
The Adrenalin O.D. book was released by DiWulf Publishing House, a DIY company that has also issued Hard Times Magazine: An Anthology of ‘80s Punk & Hardcore, and No Slam Dancing No Stage Diving No Spikes An Oral History of the Legendary City Gardens, among other fine punk-related titles.
If anything comes from If It's Tuesday This Must Be Walla Walla: The Wacky History of Adrenalin O.D. dropping, the hope is that more people discover what a killer band this was/is.
Get It
