NEKS, a new band with members of Crime in Stereo, Capsule, RILE, Daytrader, and Spirits, have released their first two songs.
The tracks were recorded by the band themselves, with members stretching from Spain to Utah, and had them mastered by Mike Kalajian at Rogue Planet. “The Land of Plenty” and “The Rubicon” do well in introducing the listener to NEKS’ brooding and heady sound.
Both songs layer great guitarwork with driving basslines, pounding drums and aggressive vocals to create an atmospheric and subtly melodic sound.
NEKS cultivate a sound similar to the post-hardcore vibes ushered in by Quicksand while also having a more modern aggression that weaves in hardcore influences.
Lyrically, the band approaches issues of social inequality and disillusionment on these tracks. NEKS are definitely doing their own thing within the underground, and they’re doing it well.
