Harrisonburg, Virginia's Post Truth came together through James Madison University's Heavy Music Club, an alternative space founded by the band's guitarist LA. Appropriately enough, the seeds were planted when a group of students decided to play a Minor Threat cover set.
“That was the first time all of us came together to play music, and as we rehearsed, the connection between us became obvious,” bassist/vocalist Matt Donohue tells No Echo. “The amount of fun we were having and the musical chemistry we shared made it impossible not to wonder what we could create together.”
After the show, Post Truth officially took shape, eventually settling into its current lineup of Donohue on lead guitar, LA on rhythm guitar, and Manny on drums. “We still have the same energy and excitement we had when we first played ‘Straight Edge’ and ‘In My Eyes,’” Donohue says. “To this day, the connection and bond we’ve built as a band has been the biggest blessing of this experience.”
The band's shared influences include Bad Brains, Turnstile, OFF!, FEAR, and Angel Du$t, all of which feed into Post Truth's debut EP, Just Another College Band.
The record's first single, “They're Coming For You,” tackles the fear and uncertainty surrounding immigration enforcement in the United States, a subject with particular resonance for Donohue and LA, who are both Puerto Rican.
“As two Puerto Ricans, LA and I have a particularly personal connection to this song,” Donohue says. “Every day, families are being separated: wives and husbands, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters. This song is a tribute to those families and an attempt to put listeners in the perspective of the fear, uncertainty, and pain these communities are experiencing.”
With Just Another College Band now out, Post Truth's immediate plan is a simple one: keep playing. “We’re grateful that the Harrisonburg music scene has given us a platform to regularly play and express ourselves through our music,” Donohue says.
The band hopes to make its way to New York and Boston later this year while continuing to work on material for a second EP, which they're aiming to release in early 2027.
