New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Sacrament

Band: Sacrament
From: Portland, Oregon

Their formation story:
(Cam, guitar): "The origin of the band is really just a group of long time friends who wanted to start a new band. Taylor (vocals) came to me about starting a project and we kinda just went back and forth for about a year. Justin learned drums for the project because he didn't want to play guitar and Connor on bass. I think Taylor had mentioned to a friend in January that we were starting a metalcore project and within a couple weeks they asked us if we wanted to play a show with Words of Scathach, Gun Shy, No Enemies, and Contention.

"After that, things just started to line up and we tracked our demo shortly after with Joe Anderson at Helvete Sound Studio in Portland, Oregon. We had Tayves Pelletier (King Yosef, Misery Whip) and Andy Rademacher (Misery Whip) fill in on guitar for a couple shows and now we have Natty Allen (Desolate Caste) as a permanent member and it's been great."

Their sound in their own words:
"We're definitely just doing the late '90s/early '00s metalcore vibe. Guitar harmonies, breakdowns, open parts. Main influences would be State Craft, Undying, Prayer for Cleansing along with some melodeath like early Darkest Hour and At the Gates."

Latest release info:
"As mentioned before, we recorded our demo with Joe Anderson at Helvete Sound Studio here in Portland in March. After getting asked to play a couple shows, we wanted to just get in and record what we had as soon as possible. We were only sitting on these songs for a couple months so we made adjustments collaboratively to stuff either before or during our session. Taylor wrote the lyrics and we made it happen.

"We're all very proud of these songs and everybody pushed themselves in their own ways to make it work out. We're also very grateful that Yetzer Hara and Blood Domain Records both reached out about pressing tapes and CDs collaboratively and the amount of support everybody has given us since playing our first show."

Future plans:
"We definitely want to just continue playing shows and write more. The Portland DIY scene has been in such a good place lately and we just want to help contribute to that as much as we can. Shoutout to Bleakhouse, 777 booking, and Third Eye Booking."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Misery Whip, King Yosef, Words of Scathach, Price of Forgiveness, Slime, Tolls, and every band/artist under BLEAKHOUSE."
