Their formation story:
(Andy, drums):"In modern times, there is an abundance of hardcore bands and, honestly, we are all kind of doing the same thing; the best formulas are already established. What makes a band unique is the characteristics that emerge from the individuals creating the art. I'm really just prefacing with that to sound wise...
"Our singer Bobby wrote and demoed the whole The Broken Homeland EP in his basement. He had the name and everything figured out before anything even happened. He sent the tracks to me, and I was like, 'Damn, bro, this is actually really slick and kind of refined already.'
"Chris accidentally joined the band, and our friend Zac was duped into playing bass. Andy Corpis (who is my old head) joined a month or two later to fill out the lineup. This suave dude named Sam recently replaced Zac on bass."
Their sound in their own words
"There is definitely a NYHC element in the sound. The name is a graffiti reference (not a weed band, OK?). I would say it's kind of like No Warning, but with some heavier metallic mosh riffs thrown in. Down to Nothing is one of Bobby's favorite hardcore bands, too.
"As a drummer, the groove parts allow me to bring my inner Mackie out, especially live. I can even hear a little Bad Brains in the clean vocals on the song 'On My Own.'
"Chris is the essential metal guy of the band, and all of those cool lead parts, bends, and pinches either come from him or are played by him. He's also THE tech dude and definitely helps dial in the tones and gear. I'll give him credit, even though he cracks on me for liking that band Eternal Champion.
"For fans of Trapped Under Ice, Backtrack, Down to Nothing, and No Warning."
Latest release info:
"We released The Broken Homeland digitally on April 17, and the artwork was done by Threatbrain. If anyone wants to put out a physical format, hit ya boys up!
"Studio time was booked in January with the homie Shaun O'Shaughnessy. We tweaked a few things before, during, and after the sessions, but Bobby had the foundation pretty well built.
"Lyrically, it's a combination of personal and political themes, with some sporadic hometown shout-outs thrown in for fun because, why not? The music is serious, but we like to have a good time, and you can hear it. Even when we play live, we like to incorporate Ohio-themed samples like Dayton funk and hip-hop between blocks."
Future plans:
"Write! We want to write faster, focused, raw hardcore tracks. The new stuff will be a little more collaborative and, so far, seems a bit darker.
"Besides writing, we want to play some shows if good offers come our way and line up with everyone's busy schedules. Touring is off the table for now because most of us have families and careers."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Without dumping a million bands on you, we'll try to keep it tight.
"Bobby plays bass in a new band called Burning Fight. Chris is in Landfilth (kind of like if Tribal Gaze was more sludge). I drum in a straight edge project with Rich Thurston (No Grave) called Uncivil Hands.
"In Heaven is a dope metal band out of the Cincinnati/Dayton area. Plain Sight and Allied Master Computer are two younger Dayton bands that lean more toward beatdown.
"The new No Grave record that Heroes & Martyrs just put out is incredible and worth checking out. Current Cincinnati bands worth mentioning are Pain Begins, Self Interest, and Primal Force. New Ohio band Justification is another one we should all be on the lookout for."
