Band: Fröthing Mad
From: New York, New York
Their formation story:
(Vito, rhythm guitar): I had been trying to get this project off the ground for a while, always writing with my pal Joe who's also in Beg to Differ with me. Eventually we started fleshing out drums with Felipe, a good friend of ours who I met at Queens College and who currently drums in Psyclop and Fanboys.
"I was aware of Oli in the scene who previously fronted Antagonizm in the UK and had a real classic vocal style and I just hit him up with some phone demos and he was into it. Oli is good friends with the young legend Macon from Brooklyn (Square One) and so we had our lead guitar. Everyone really contributes a lot to the final sound that's on our demo. We practice at Astoria Sound Works and eat a lot of shawarma."
Their sound in their own words:
"The goal of this band was really to write stuff reminiscent of '80s NYHC but leaning toward some of the crossover acts, specifically Crumbsuckers and Agnostic Front (specifically their sound on Cause For Alarm).
"I'm really not trying to reinvent the wheel, just channeling some of my favorite old-school bands because that's the stuff I like. We want to keep it fun, mosh-able in the way that the aforementioned bands are, but free from any parts that sound too heavy or too modern."
Latest release info:
"We just released our 6-song demo on From Within Records. There's a tape available with artwork by @Kar1minal. Big thanks to Darren Nanos for all his input and for recording us at his studio in Long Island City."
Future plans:
"We've got some sick shows that are soon to be announced, so follow us for more news on that front. We want to play out our demo a bunch of course. Probably won't be long before we start working on some new material though."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Very proud of the current New York scene. Bazooka, Steamroll, Top Dollar, Ferment, Square One, Combust, Beg to Differ, No Values, Shits Creek, Running Hot, Psyclop, Smashing Time. Also keep an eye out for new bands Ill Wind, and 100 Hour War. Shout out Lina at Bored Friends for booking tons of local shows.
"In the UK - Imposter, Lost Cause, and Nuclear Children. Free Ola."
The Fröthing Mad demo is available on cassette via From Within Records.
