Their formation story:
(Mike, guitar): "The four of us have been friends since we were kids growing up in North Rockland in the Hudson Valley, New York. We’ve always shared music, gone to shows, jammed when we got the chance but never did anything formally with music until Cursebreaker.
"The idea for the band solidified at This is Hardcore 2023 when bassist, Chris, vocalist, Tom, and guitarist Mike decided to 'formally' start a band and write/practice on a semi regular basis. The goal was to just record some tracks, share them with our friends and whomever else cared to listen and play some shows.
"From there, we’ve been meeting on a near monthly basis in Queens — Tom our vocalist traveling from Philly, Dan our drummer, and Chris our bassist from the Hudson Valley, and Mike our guitarist from Long Island, to jam and write."
Their sound in their own words:
"Our influences are all over the map. We have an obvious metallic hardcore sound taking much influence from late '80s/'90s metalcore - Earth Crisis, Merauder, Integrity, All Out War - but aren’t shy to incorporate aspects of death metal, thrash, or groove."
Latest release info:
"We just released our latest EP, Sin to Live, on May 9th. The record is a culmination of over a year of playing together as Cursebreaker and honing in on our favorite aspects of aggressive music - rhythms that make people go wild was the primary focus. As I would write demo riffs if my shoulders weren’t rocking to the beat while I recorded, the track was a dud.
"We went through about 20 demoed tracks before honing on these 5, most of which were written after FYA. 48 hours straight of just live hardcore you start to feel what truly clicks in a song and writing to achieve the same emotional builds and peaks became that much more clear."
Future plans:
"We have a few shows coming up. We are working with a new Hudson Valley/Long Island promotion, Glue Man Productions. They’re putting on a record release gig for us on 6/7 in Nyack, NY. We’re in Philly on 7/20 with Brass Tongue and Cold Hard Steel.
"We also have about a half dozen side projects in the works. Stay tuned."
