No Echo faves Balmora just announced the forthcoming release of their debut full-length, These Graven Halls. Coming out in late May through DAZE, the LP marks the culmination of a three-year build and the recorded debut of new vocalist, Paul Cole.
Throughout the record, Balmora draws on a wide range of influences, weaving together metalcore and melodic black metal with a more atmospheric, forward-looking edge. Alongside obvious touchstones like The Black Dahlia Murder and On Broken Wings, the band also draws from outside sources, including the film Requiem for a Dream, video game Silent Hill, composer Philip Glass, and Swedish musician Bladee, giving the material a broader emotional and sonic scope.
Alongside the announcement, Balmora have released “Ophelia,” a track that captures the band’s full range. The song moves between frantic, tension-filled riffing and more restrained melodic passages before closing on a heavy breakdown built for live settings. Vocalist Paul Cole’s performance is matched by a guest appearance from Holder’s Brie Percy, whose added vocals push the track even further.
Guitarist Jay Torblaa describes the song as “a story of betrayal, heartbreak, revenge, and forgiveness,” adding that it’s meant to reflect “the nature of initial anger, action, and remorse in a hanging balance system.”
Lyrically, These Graven Halls leans into introspection, moving through themes of anguish, deception, and power as the band sharpens its identity. The album also features contributions from members of I Promised The World, Upon Stone, Empty Shell Casing, and Holder.
The record was tracked at The Source in New Haven, Connecticut, with production, engineering, and mixing handled by band members Chaz Torok and Jay Torblaa. Mastering was completed by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.
Balmora won’t be slowing down once the record drops. The band hits the road immediately, joining Poison the Well, Converge, and SPY for a North American run. From there, they’ll headline their own U.S. dates in June with support from Holder and Azshara, before jumping onto this year’s Summer Slaughter tour alongside Hatebreed, Devourment, Incantation, Snuffed on Sight, and Face Yourself, with festival appearances including Hellfest and The Rumble.
