When No Echo last checked in with Boneripper, the metallic hardcore band from Harlingen, Netherlands, was pushing their 2024 debut album, World Ablaze. Over the past couple of years, the band has focused on writing and recording its sophomore album, while steadily building live experience across Europe.
"We've been busy writing and recording a brand new record called Radiant in Ruin," vocalist WD tells No Echo. "We also played a lot of cool shows over the past year, including festivals like Into the Grave. We've really tried to stay active, play as much as possible, and keep building momentum as a band."
A year of touring has pushed Boneripper forward. WD notes that the band's chemistry has grown, both during shows and in rehearsal. "I think the biggest difference is that we've become way more locked in as a band," he explains. "We understand each other better musically and personally, and everyone has naturally found their role within the band. That helped us become tighter live and more focused when writing music."
That sense of confidence is present throughout Radiant in Ruin. Instead of changing direction, Boneripper built on the groundwork of its earlier releases, relying on the instincts that shaped the band from the start.
"We mainly wanted to build further on what we started with the previous releases and just write really heavy tracks that excite us," WD says. "We didn't overthink things too much. We focused on writing music that feels honest, aggressive, and fun for us to play. I think this new material sounds more confident and more like 'us.'"
As Boneripper's reputation has grown, so have the stages. Playing Into the Grave and South of Heaven Open Air gave the band a chance to bring new material to larger crowds. Despite that, the band remains connected to the local scene that shaped its early days. WD highlights Friesland's hardcore community as a key influence, mentioning Deafened to Death, Echo's in Ruin, and LIES! as bands to watch.
Looking ahead, Boneripper will keep the forward momentum flowing. "We're just really stoked about this new record and excited for everything coming up this year," WD says. "We put a lot into these songs and can't wait for people to hear them and hopefully see us live somewhere soon."
