New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Tackle

Band: Tackle
From: Copenhagen, Denmark

Their formation story:
(Gareth, bass): "Like many bands, we started with the breakup of an old one. Kaspar, Raul, and I had a rough split from our last project. But over burgers, we realized we still loved playing music together and weren’t ready to stop. Raul already had some songs written, and we got to work right away. We quickly started auditioning guitarists. Christian and Tristan were the first two we tried, and it was clear they were the right fit.

"From day one, we agreed on two things: Everything should be decided as a band. No front-person dictatorship. If it sounds good, it is good. We’re not here to follow rules. As soon as we got in a room together, the songs came fast—sometimes one a week. Everyone brought ideas, and we built them together. We all love playing our instruments, and the chemistry clicked from the start.

"Our first show was at Punks Undead, where we played with Invektiv and BxS Proof. The response blew us away. People were already singing along to the melodic bits and going wild to the heavy parts. That’s when we knew we had something. Since then, we’ve played in Byens Lys (Christiania), Odense, and Aarhus with our friends in Organiseret Støj. It’s been a blast every time. While some members have stepped back as permanent members, they still play live when needed—and we’re more excited than ever to keep writing music together."

Their sound in their own words:
"We call it melodic hardcore, but we don’t write to fit a genre. We write music we want to hear and that’s fun to play. Heavy riffs, fast tempos, big vocal melodies, and layered harmonies are all part of the mix.

"Each of us brings different influences: Gareth (bass): Grew up in the Bay Area; big on Matt Freeman and Fat Mike. Raul (vocals): Former singing teacher in Spain; draws from Rody Walker, Andrew Neufeld, Sting, and Freddie Mercury. Tristan (guitar): Started on classical guitar; now mixes technical flair à la Mark Tremonti and Nuno Bettencourt. Kaspar (drums): Huge Travis Barker fan, which you can hear in the energy of his parts. Snorre (guitar): Inspired by Leon from RKL/Lagwagon."

Latest release info:
"Our debut single, 'Enough Is Enough,' is about Pusher Street in Christiania, where we live. For those who don’t know, Christiania started as an anarchist squat in the ‘70s and has fought to remain a self-governed, democratic community ever since.

"There used to be a peaceful hash market here, but over the years it was taken over by gangs and turned violent, culminating in a recent shooting. The song began as a call for freedom from this violence. But after seeing how the government responded—with more police and little community engagement—the lyrics took a turn.

"We started asking: Is this cleanup effort just replacing gangs with cops? Why aren’t they trying to build relationships instead?"

Future plans:
"We just want to keep making music, playing gigs, and building connections across the Danish hardcore scene. We’ve been booking shows ourselves and helping set up events to open up more local venues, like the skate comp we’re playing in Christiania on November 1st with five bands."

"Our second single, 'On the Ropes,' is out August 15th (pre-. It’s about fighting through life’s hardest moments, born from one band member’s struggles with mental health, and the power of a positive mindset to push forward. More music is being recorded, and the feedback on Enough is Enough has been incredible."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Organiseret Støj, Systemfejl, Nexø, Knytnæve, Invektiv, Rå Løg, Bullshit Proof, Beskidt Service, Brain Soup, Fabled Mind, Gorilla Angreb, No Hope for the Kids.

"Special shoutout to Punks Undead, a gig series run by Emil and Sisse. They're the opposite of gatekeepers and have given countless new bands a shot. We’re also thankful to Organiseret Støj for taking us along when they tour—it’s been amazing."
