Band: Hike
From: Malacca, Malaysia
Their formation story:
(Aqeyl, vocals): "Hike is a hardcore band from the small town of Merlimau, Malacca. We started playing together in early 2023. I'm joined in the lineup by Nas (lead guitarist), Sar (rhythm guitar), Mal (bassist), and Dean (drums).
"In 2024, we released our debut single, 'Liar,' a raw DIY recording that captures our true essence. This year, we kicked it off with 2 tracks, 'Trigger Warning/Bondage' from our forthcoming album."
Their sound in their own words:
"Our sound is a chaotic blend of fast-paced riffs, thunderous drums, and visceral vocals. We aim at capturing the essence of hardcore punk while adding our own unique edge. We make music with mosh pits, stage dives, crowd singalongs, and swagness in mind. Our influences include SPY, BIB, UNSUB:, and Safety Zone."
Latest release info:
"'Trigger Warning' is a about what's happening in Palestine now, and the world's reaction to that. Do people stay silent or speak up about it? Our voice is a our weapon. 'Bondage' is a broken heart song when someone just came into your life and leave you because of her/him past. Someone who is chained to past memories."
Future plans:
"We will be working on our debut album. We'll also be touring around Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia in 2026."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"K9 hardcore, SEVEN8SIX, Execrate, Back Disaster, Final War, Shtypës."
