Song of the Day

Leather Glove, “Conduit to Misery,” from Skin on Glass (Sentient Ruin, 2016)

Working out of his Earhammer Studios in Oakland, California, Greg Wilkinson has recorded a who's who list of underground death metal and sludge bands. Ghoul, Noothgrush, Pallbearer, and High on Fire are just a few of the acts who have spent studio time with Wilkinson in the past few years. I had the pleasure of working with him when I recorded my vocal tracks for the upcoming Deny the Cross album.

Wilkinson's latest project, Leather Glove, finds the studio wiz banging out crusty death metal that reminds me of Incantation and His Hero is Gone. Premiered by Cvlt Nation last week, "Conduit to Misery" is the first offering from Leather Glove's forthcoming Skin on Glass demo.

Featuring drums by Necrot drummer Chad Galley, the song includes both doom-ridden guitar and bass riffs and speedy death metal sections. For the Leather Glove project, Wilkinson provides the guttural vocals plus the guitar and bass—not surprising since he's proven his instrumental prowess as a member of bands like Brainoil and Graves at Sea.

Leather Glove's Skin on Glass demo will be released on cassette via Sentient Ruin on May 20.
