Song of the Day

Gerard Way, “No Shows,” from Hesitant Alien (Warner Bros. Records, 2014)

From its cooing background vocals that start the song off to the choking saxophone that brings it all to an end, "No Shows" sounds like an unearthed single from the golden age of glam rock.

The second single lifted from My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way's forthcoming solo debut album, Hesitant Alien, "No Shows" drips with attitude. Way and Ian Fowles (The Aquabats, Further Seems Forever, Death by Stereo) lead the charge with Mick Ronson-kissed guitar riffs that boogie along with Jarrod Alexander's (American Nightmare, A Static Lullaby) rock solid drum pattern. I've read a lot about Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco, and it's not hard to picture the entire club filling the dance floor for a song like "No Shows."

I haven't heard Hesitant Alien in its entirety yet, but here's to hoping the rest of the material on it is as great as "No Shows."
