Forty Winters is a South Florida outfit that writes and performs a style of metallic hardcore that also includes elements of modern thrash and death metal. "Summoning Spirits" is the first track on the band's just-released sophomore album, Rotting Empire.
"Summoning Spirits" is a fitting opener, as it never lets up in the energy department. Right when one neck-snapping guitar riff ends, another comes whipping around the corner. Vocalist Xavier Vicuna goes at his delivery with a vengeance, and has a Jamey Jasta-like delivery in moments. In other words, Vicuna's voice is just as rugged as the wall of noise behind him.
I'd never heard of Forty Winters 'til a few days ago, but "Summoning Spirits" was definitely the adrenaline shot I needed to get my week started right. Several album bundles for Rotting Empire are available for purchase at the Dead Truth Recordings webstore.
