Song of the Day

Civilized, “Burning Cold,” from Chopping Block (Youth Attack, 2017)

"Burning Cold" had me from its opening bass line. Civilized bassist John Menchaca's rancid tone sets the stage for the rest of the track, which just gets uglier as it reveals itself. Featured on the Denver band's brand-new Chopping Block LP, "Burning Cold" is a perfect showcase for Civilized's raw take on hardcore. In addition to the aforementioned bass intro, there's a nasty mosh riff right at the top of the song, before upping the speed during the verse sections, and then getting into some breakdown hijinks later on.

Oh, there's also some Youth of Today-styled gang vocals towards the end of the track. I dig this.
