Song of the Day

Chemical Fix, “Quench,” from Leisure Fear (2018)

Chemical Fix is a new hardcore act from the City of Brotherly Love that got my attention via an email from one of the members of the band. It turns out that the group features musicians from such bands as Grower, Drowse, Fixation, and Caffeine, but we're here to talk Chemical Fix.

The quintet's new Leisure Fear EP is a kick in the ass from the get, courtesy of "Quench," its opening cut. It's mostly a fast-paced track, tearing through with crunchy guitars and snarling vocals. This is a no-bullshit type of song, and what I mean by that is that there isn't anything left in the arrangement that doesn't need to be there.

Chemical Fix's direct hardcore approach can't fail because the players are clearly in-tune with the style's history and pay it the respect it deserves.
